The Bird Project
The Process
By rearranging pre-cut shapes students experimented with how different shapes can be used to make pictures, in this case birds. Once the students have figured out what shapes they need to make their birds they could trace or draw the shape onto a piece of tissue paper, of their choosing. The students will then rip, or cut out the shapes they have chosen. Once the kids have their shapes cut they will decoupage them onto their paper.
OPEN ENDED CONVERSATIONS
While students are looking at different photographs of birds we will have open ended conversations to discuss new and exciting information such as… What are the different parts of a bird? What shapes make up those parts? What colors are the birds? How can we recreate these colors? What are the differences between birds and people? Where do birds live? What do they like to eat? How do they communicate? ETC.
WORKING TOGETHER AND FUNDRAISING
The Final Project will be a collaborative piece that includes all of the children’s birds in a mural-esc home or habitat they have created together. This final project was used for our classroom poster (above), which will be sold to raise money for the program during the week of the young child.
